Royal West Indies Hotel

PostedApril 11, 2012
Sweet little surprise. We didn't expect the hotel to have such a homie feel. It can be a little loud in the early mornings because the doors go to the outside and there is a big enough gap between the door and the floor that the light gets in at night. But other than that no complaints. The staff is awesome and the place is comfortable.
Pros: Close restaurants, Free Internet

Great hotel, superb setting

PostedFebruary 7, 2012
This is our first time to Turks and Caicos and we couldn't have picked a better place to stay the room was spacious, the view was amazing and the staff were very friendly and helpfull. While there are bigger resort/hotels with perhaps more amenities, the R.W.I. felt just right, and the price couldn't be beat. We will certainly go back and probably pick R.W.I again.
Pros: Close restaurants, Free Internet, Quiet

Perfect. Just what I hoped for.

PostedNovember 15, 2011
We had a perfect stay at RWI. Reading reviews here gave me doubts, but we went for it. And it far exceeded expectations. Food at the restaurant was excellent -- not good -- excellent. Rooms were tastefully decorated, very clean. Service team worked hard and did a solid job--they cleaned dishes, restocked coffee, etc. The staff was also very kind and made a point to say hi and say please and thank you. There were bikes and snorkeling gear at the ready whenever we wanted. I have no doubt that RWI is the best value resort on that part of Provo. I'd return there in a heartbeat.
Pros: Close restaurants, Free Internet, Quiet

Second time just as great as the first

PostedJuly 3, 2011
This was our second trip to the island and The Royal West Indies. Rather than try another hotel we decided to return to RWI and were so glad we did. The service, rooms, grounds and locale were all as great as we remembered. The RWI is the perfect combination of luxery and ease that our family enjoys. The rooms are spacious, the landscaping is beautiful, the staff are courteous and the facilities are ideal. The only downside was that the magnificent restaurant Mango Reef moved to another resort. The food at Pelican Bay is fine but not quite on the same par as the dishes offered at Mango Reef.
Still RWI is the perfect getaway for us, and we have already booked our next trip.
Pros: Free Internet, Quiet

Older Hotel with Some Good Updates, But Missing Important Details

PostedApril 25, 2011
I had written a much longer review, but ended up deciding to condense it for readability:
Good points:
- Location - it's on the north end of Grace Bay, just before Club Med. If you want to relax, this is a better location to be, in my opinion. Some people complain that the noise from Club Med is bad, but we didn't notice, and we were on the Club Med side of the resort.
- Grounds - Great looking resort, well manicured, good character. Not a sprawling mammoth resort complex.
- Beach Staff - very attentive. Remembered that we were looking for a flotation noodle, and found one for us later and sought us out.
- All rooms have lanais - at some resorts in the same price range, garden view rooms have a window only.
- Remodeled rooms with big screen TVs, blu-ray player, and washer dryer.
Bad Points:
- Water and Drain issues - Had no hot water on day 1, and they were never able to fix it by 6 days later. Had 2 minutes of warm water the entire time. Drains were stopped up, they snaked them, they stopped up again. Sink drain fell apart and had to be repaired. Water smelled heavily like sulfur, so didn't want to use washer and dryer, because clothes smelled terrible afterward.
- Bicycles - They had 4 bicycles. However, one or two were always in the shop, and the other two were frighteningly worn out. Plan on renting from Caicos Wheels if you want to bike. Caicos Wheels will come pick you up from your hotel for free, btw.
- Onsite restaurant (Pelican Bay) is horrendous - can't stress this enough. Waiter seemed uninterested in us. After receiving greasy terrible food, we figured he had grown tired of apologizing, and had given up.
- Other staff and service - maids forgot to leave towels on two or three days. Put queen size sheets on king size bed. Front desk neglected to make reservations twice for us for restaurants. We showed up to the restaurants, and they had no record of us.
- Power outage at the hotel, flooding in the street after a day of rain.
In summary, it appears that either Royal West Indies is trying to compete on price, which is not allowing them to fix the last 20% of the service and facilities issues, or they have some management issues, and they're having to discount the price to attract people.
Unfortunately, as they say, you only get one chance to make a first impression, and our first impression was that this hotel has promise, but has some key details that are being overlooked mean that we would not risk another vacation on this hotel, and would not recommend them to others.
Pros: Free Internet, Quiet
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

We wouldn't hesistate to return!

The hotel is situated on a beautiful beach and the grounds are lush. We had a garden room that provided a lot of privacy. The bartender makes the best mojito that we have ever had. We look forward to returning to this lovely spot!

Best Location in Provo!

PostedApril 10, 2011
I HIGHLY recommend this location! I ran the length of the beach to chk out other hotels and this was the BEST for our family! Best beach location in Provo. Less wind/rough water than further down the beach -- this stretch of beach is beautiful sugar white sand with easy entry into the water (no big drop-offs / rocks). Great location for kids/families who like to swim/play in the sand/snorkle. Relatively quiet -- so a good place for couples who just want to get away from it all! If you're looking for nightlife/entertainment or don't enjoy spending time on the beach & water -- this is not your place. IGA grocery is walking/biking distance. Bikes are provided free of charge or a short taxi ride is possible. Full kitchen is fully appointed. 2 pools -- both very nice. One is a quiet area which provides a nice place to read or relax without comotion. Very nice quiet hottub. Hotel gardens are beautiful. Kayaks and HobieCat are available at no charge -- lots of fun. There is a place on the beach just past ClubMed where you can rent a boat inexpensively to take a quick run up to the Iguana sanctuary or some nice empty beaches. Shell / sand-dollar hunting is excellent! Great snorkling, too. Tips: buy beer / drink mix / food at grocery and eat on your balcony -- you will save a boatload of money! That said, there are 5 Star restaurants all over the island! Coco Beach is highly recommended. All water on the island is desalinated so bring Crystal Lite Mix / Gatorade powder or instant tea to cut the odd flavor of the tap water. There is ice in your room. Bring a couple of clips to fasten your potato chip/ snack bags as things do become stale/soggy quickly. Sun is INTENSE so a good SUNGLASSES & SPF cream (not spray) is advisable esp. for the first few days. I wore SPF 70 on my face and I'm still VERY tan. Umbrellas and chairs are plentiful on the beach -- never had any issue getting a spot for our family of 4. Drink/food service on the beach. Very few vendors on the beach. It's just lovely -- Book this hotel! (Food @ this location: C+ -- nothing special and expensive).

Garden Paradise

PostedMarch 27, 2011
This was our first trip to Turks and Caicos, so we did not know exactly which resorts would be best for us, but the Royal West Indies turns out to be just the place. Beautiful grounds, a wonderful reception at the front desk and ease of check in. The room was clean, the bed comfortable. We had a garden view room that was near the restaurant ( Pelican Bay ) and with the landscaping could barely see or hear the diners from our patio. The grounds are clean, beautifully landscaped. The restaurant has wonderful service and excellent food. We usually like to explore off the resort for dining, but it was just too convenient and the dishes too good to head elsewhere. The beach is right at the foot of the property and it is clean, with enough beach chairs and umbrellas for the guests.
When it is time to return to this island we will definitely return to this hotel!

A Great Experience

PostedFebruary 27, 2011
We spent an entire week there. Never been at a cleaner more prettier resort. The rooms were kept immaculately. The staff was helpful and extremely cheerful. The pools were amazing and the beach spotless. It was truly a unique experience and we would stay there again and again. What a beautifull island and dining was an fantastic culinary adventure.

Luxury at a Value

PostedFebruary 21, 2011
December 2010 was the 4th trip to the Royal West Indies Resort my husband & I have taken. We have always stayed in a studio, as most of our time is spent on the beach, by the pools, or out & about.
The restaurant has changed ownership I believe, but it remains a great place when you don't feel like venturing out. The hotel staff were very accomodating, and is nice to see some of the same faces from our first trip several years prior. If you are seeking a party place, lots of excitement, or loads of activities - this is not your place.
It is a quiet, beautifully landscaped, well-maintained property - where we travel to relax without any hustle and disturbance.
We will return.
Pros: Close restaurants, Quiet

Great Quiet Stretch of Awesome beach. Great Beach service.

PostedFebruary 13, 2011
RWI was perfect for my travel companion and myself. The beach was quiet, uncrowded, no solicitors. Has umbrellas to provide shade if you need it. The staff keeps the beach area and the pool area very clean. Although I don't think it is a regular service, the bartender came to the beach prior to sunset to take drink orders. I also saw food delivered a couple of times. Accommodations were terrific. Saw a couple of ants inside, but not so much to be a problem. (Creatures appear sometimes in humid areas.) The tour desk in the lobby was very helpful in scheduling excursions for snorkeling, etc. The front desk pre-arranged transportation to the airport for us on our last day without being asked. Very nice. Would love to go back. Would like to see more reasonable package deals available online (Air & Hotel) to this destination.
Turks & Caicos is a great quiet place.
Pros: Quiet, awesome clean beach

Forget about your troubles

PostedFebruary 8, 2011
This was the most relaxing vacation I've ever spent. Everything here far exceeded my expectations. From the time my wife and I arrived, we were treated like VIPs. The staff was very attentive, and extremely nice. From the time we got to our room, it was relax and enjoy. The room overlooked one of the pools and the outdoor hot tub, and it wasn't long before we were in both. From there it is a short walk to the second pool which is located right next to the bar and resturant. From there it's another short walk to the most breathtaking beach I've ever seen; crystal white sand and the clearest blue water (being from New Jersey where the water is brownish and so is the sand). Standing at the edge of the surf you can clearly see starfish and conk in water that you realize later is four or six feet deep. And that water is warm and comforting. Plenty to do and see here. There is a small casino walking distance from the resort (I know, I was there on three of the days). There are lots of other things to do like snorkeling, parasailing, fishing, and glass bottomed boats and much more, Not much night life, and the food can be a little pricey, but this is a place to go and veg, and most of all, forget about your troubles.
Pros: Close restaurants, Quiet

This hotel made me feel welcome

PostedFebruary 7, 2011
The hotel is right on the beach. It has two pools, a hot tub and offers water activity equipment for free. You get good value and everything is convenient. The workers are freindly and helpful. The landscaping is lush and meticulous, the nicest landscaping of any hotel around there. The beach is amazing. The sand is white so it stays cool even when it is sunny and hot all day. The water is several shades of blue and green. The layout of the hotel is nice. It has several three story buildings that are spread out around the property. You feel that you have space and privacy. On the Island; Rent a car. Things on the island are spread out and finding a taxi is hit or miss. Get ready for sticker shock with the food. Meals are expensive even compared to New York prices.
Pros: Close restaurants, Quiet

Good hotel, great beach

PostedFebruary 7, 2011
I would definitely recommend the Royal West Indies hotel, and if I had the opportunity I would not refuse staying there again. The food at the restaurant was good and the property overall is well kept and very nicely landscaped. The beach is also perfect for swimming or just sitting and watching the water.

We loved it!

PostedFebruary 7, 2011
Our check-in went smoothly, staff was friendly and helpful. Our 1st floor, botanical view studio was the perfect size for 2 of us. We had a full size fridge, micro, toaster and sink, utensils and dishes provided. Air conditioning worked well on the few times we needed it. Large flat screen tv and internet in room were great. Bed was clean and comfy. Loved the patio! Grounds were beautiful, nice pools, bar and restaurant. Beach had plenty of chairs and umbrellas, kayak, catamaran, snorkel equipment - all at no extra charge. Nice location on Grace Bay. Can't wait to go back!
Pros: Close restaurants, Free Internet, beautiful grounds

One of our favorite places

PostedFebruary 4, 2011
We stayed at the RWI Dec. 6-13, 2010 and give it five stars.
The location is outstanding, the staff are friendly and attentive, and our garden studio room was spacious and clean.
The property is truly beautiful and well-maintained. We didn’t notice any noise and enjoyed some of the best sleep we’ve ever experienced away from home. We were also happy with the location of the room in relation to the beach.
Pros: Close restaurants, Quiet

RWI is indeed a resort in which you are able to relax and forget all of your worries.

PostedFebruary 3, 2011
RWI is on one of the best beaches in "Provo," Grace Bay Beach. The hotel is welcoming is extremely clean and beautiful. Their gardens are very well tended and exotic flowers and their perfume fill the air. Our stay was for 10 days; however, I wish it had been much longer. We will return to RWI over and over again. The one and only complaint would be that there is no room service offered and their restaurant is a bit pricey.
Pros: Close restaurants, Quiet
Cons: No free Internet

Just what we needed!

Our 2-bedroom suite was ideal for our little group of one couple and a single, giving plenty of space and privacy. Even though our unit was the furthest from the beach, we could still see the ocean from our 3rd floor balcony.
The staff was helpful, esp. the guys at the beach. Not all the equipment was in working order (inbetween seasons), so I recommend they keep up with that better - takes the stress off checking time when you're out having fun on the hobie cat!
Beautiful beach, incredible water, plenty of comfort. Enjoyed using the old-fashioned bikes for our grocery trips, and the meal we had onsite was delicious. There are other restaurants within walking distance, too, though prices everywhere are high (but consistent and food is great).
And, all of us being cat lovers, we particularly enjoyed the resident cats, both of which were polite and completely well-behaved.
The CD player in our room did not work but that's minor. We had a great time both inside and out, and I thought I was going to have to leave my husband behind!
Pros: Close restaurants, Free Internet, Quiet, great beach free equpment use helpful staff, resident cats
Cons: old-fashioned keys instead of key cards, public road out front needs work
I would recommend this to a friend!
